Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Vice President Nurul Izzah Anwar has confirmed her candidacy to defend her position in the party elections scheduled for May. This decision is part of her efforts to strengthen PKR’s leadership and prepare the party for the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16).
Commitment to PKR
Nurul Izzah views this election as an opportunity to nurture leadership talent within the party and ensure that PKR remains strong in facing political challenges.

“I hope party members will support me, and I hope this election will be held in the spirit of unity. We want to ensure that the best leaders have the space and opportunity to contribute,” she said.
Tough Competition in the Elections
The May election is expected to be highly competitive, with three current PKR Vice Presidents also defending their positions:
✔ Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (Selangor Chief Minister)
✔ Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (Negeri Sembilan Chief Minister)
✔ Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability)
Nurul Izzah did not contest in the 2022 PKR elections, but was later appointed Vice President alongside K. Saraswathy and Awang Husaini Sahari.
Nurul Izzah’s Role and Contributions
Her candidacy announcement came after she attended the Kasih Ramadan and Moreh donation event at Masjid Zaid bin Thabit, Desa Tun Razak. During the event, she represented Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and distributed food aid to 200 recipients, including single mothers and underprivileged individuals.
Challenges and Aspirations
When asked whether this decision had her father’s approval, PKR President and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Nurul Izzah confirmed that she had received her family’s blessing and officially submitted her candidacy at the branch level.
She also acknowledged that governing under the Unity Government presents unique challenges but emphasized that PKR must remain strong and ready for the future.
